Witness
If a tree falls in a forest and you hear it..? or however the saying goes.
You pray in a dark room, all alone, talking to that silent invisible other.
You take on the role of your mother, protecting your body and guiding your mind, she isn’t there to speculate your job well done.
You heal your past behind closed doors, tearing through heavy layers of anguish and grief. Rebuilding is a violent process, recovery bores you. No one’s present to commemorate the beauty of your strength.
You talk to the mirror, all the things you want to hear but never do, you give it all to yourself.
You treat yourself to a dinner date. Put on your best clothes and your most expensive perfume, it’s a formal event.
You count your victories. All the battles you’ve won and lost, look at how far you’ve come.
You are just as real as any other.
